Form Your Teams!
Your school can register up to three teams, so make sure you spread the word. Each team must have up to four undergraduate accounting students and an optional alternate, plus a moderator or administrator as a chaperone.
Side note: all of the team members must be full-time students enrolled in the institution’s bachelor’s degree program. However – if a student was a full-time student last semester, but not required to carry a full-time schedule to obtain their degree, they are eligible.
Bummer! Goodman & Company interns (even those who are on leave of absence from the firm), Goodman & Company employees and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
Pre-qualifying Challenge:
On the evening before the preliminary challenge, each registered team member will get an email with a link to the exam as well as instructions. The exam isn’t required to be moderated by a university official unless the school feels inclined to do so. How do we know you’re following the rules you ask? Simple. All students and moderators are asked to abide by the honor code system. Don’t forget, the exam has to be completed between October 8th and October 18th, 2010.
Your team has 6, count ‘em, 6 hours to complete the exam and can be completed any time during that 11 day period. To access the test, the team captain must sign in to the website (check your email, that’s where the login information went!). Once the students sign in, the test must be completed 6 hours from that time – no coming back later to finish up, and don’t even think about signing in again, teams that have 2 sign ins will be disqualified –and who wants that?! All exams must be completed online by 5pm on October 18th, 2010. Computer support may be limited depending on when your test is being taken, so make sure you plan accordingly, or have a computer/IT whiz at your disposal. Our support is offered during our regular business hours and also from 9am to 5pm on the two Saturdays, October 9th and October 16th. After you’re finished, you’ll get a prompt to email gac@goodmanco.com for verification as well. And, that’s it, the preliminary challenge will be over!
Tools of the Trade! What You’ll Need for the Challenge…
Students will be instructed to open the exam file from their e-mail and save it to their hard drive. Your team will be given a unique-identifying name that has been added to the Word documents. DON’T change the file name! Keep in mind that failing to follow all instructions can cause your team to lose points! Not good!
Victory is Yours! The Final Challenge!:
Here’s the deal – the five highest scoring teams from the pre-qualifying challenge will be selected to join us for The Final Challenge. What is that? Something you definitely want! Eligible teams and their administrator will be invited to attend the final round of the competition to be held in Goodman & Company’s Richmond office, November 5-7th, 2010. Goodman & Company will provide some materials for reference, but students can bring ANY laptops and accounting materials that they choose. This could be your textbooks, FASB/industry guides, personal laptops, calculators, etc. But don’t fret at another 6-hour test, the weekend isn’t all business…We have a nice dinner planned for Friday night and some really cool entertainment. The final challenge begins at 9:00am on Saturday and will end at 3:00pm. And we don’t stop there, Saturday evening plans include a banquet dinner and awards presentation.
Travel Information
Expenses related to mileage will be reimbursed for the final competition. Lodging, meals and sponsored social events will be provided by Goodman & Company.
Show Me The Money!
And who doesn’t love cold, hard cash? Yeah, we thought that would get your attention….. monetary prizes will be awarded to each of the final five competing schools and team members.
